Director of Operations
The Director of Operations will develop, implement, manage and evaluate operation processes, procedures, and guidelines in accordance with the standards and procedures of Pioneer Records to ensure that operational processes stay within budgets and timelines.
The Director of Operations directly oversees the Marketing, Talent and Booking Agency, Graphic Design and Public Relations departments at Pioneer Records. The Director of Operations is responsible for managing the Pioneer Star project, which includes the production and distribution of the annual EP for the Pioneer Star. This includes, but is not limited to, artist development, marketing strategy, eternal partnerships, the production and distribution of an extended play (EP), and EP release concert.
The Director of Operations’ job is to generate schedules, timelines, and deadlines for all departments to motivate a healthy and inspiring work culture. This position will also maintain record keeping, documentation, contracts, fundraising, sales, and streaming metrics of all label and artist operations.
The Director of Operations position is a full-time paid apprenticeship (10 hours/week) with Pioneer Records. As Pioneer Records staff, the Director of Operations is expected to participate in large organizational events such as the Pioneer Star EP Release Concert and the Title IX Concert.
Director of Marketing, Public Relations and Social Media
The Director of Marketing is responsible for the promotion of Pioneer Records’ products and services. The Director of Marketing will be responsible for estimating product demand and discovering new markets interested in buying products. The job may also include the need to understand target audience and develop a strategy for product pricing based on market demand. The Director of Marketing will help market services offered to local artists through the Pioneer Records Talent Agency and will work closely with the Director of Talent & Booking to accomplish this. The Director of Marketing will also oversee Pioneer Records merchandise and other new product development.
As the Director of Social Media, they are responsible for coordinating and executing the Pioneer Records’ social media strategy. They are expected to work across key social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. The Director of Social Media will also be responsible for media campaigns. This role will be instrumental in increasing our social media presence and gaining visibility for our brand. Additionally, the Director will be responsible for follower statistics; in this capacity, the Director will be expected to collect and analyze follower metrics to increase followership and improve brand recognition.
As the Director of Public Relations, the position is responsible for maintaining the public appearance of Pioneer Records. They will generate brand recognition by building a favorable public image for Pioneer Records and by supporting Pioneer Records’ digital footprint. The Director of Public Relations will generate social media campaigns and maintain the content on the pioneerrecords.org webpage. Additionally, the Public Relations Director will be asked to write press releases that are distributed to on- and off-campus outlets. As directed, they will also work with the Director of Graphic Design to support the design of regular posts and projects, such as promotional materials, print and electronic.
The Director will also serve as the supervisor to Pioneer Records’ Content Writer(s). In this capacity, the he/she is responsible for helping the Content Writer(s) and Social Media Intern generate written content for social media sites and other public relations efforts. Additionally, the Public Relations will be asked to write feature stories, conduct interviews, and help and edit major publications generated by Operations, the Talent & Booking, and Marketing departments.
As Pioneer Records staff, the Director is expected to participate in large organizational events that fall outside of regular job responsibilities such as the Pioneer Star Release EP Concert and the Title IX Concert.

Director of Talent & Booking
The Director of Talent & Booking develops the talent booking strategies, the creative programming concepts and manages partnership opportunities. They are responsible for the oversight of deliverables and talent logistics (travel, itineraries, contracts, etc). The Director of Talent & Booking is responsible for booking shows for our Pioneer Star Artist(s), Talent Agency and for special events produced on the Point Park campus, such as the annual Title IX concert. Special events might require the Director of Talent and Booking to secure local, regional or national acts; this may require them to work closely with a professional promoter. They will also work with venues and large organizations, such as the Pittsburgh Playhouse, Stage AE and Downtown Pittsburgh Partnership to produce community events.
The Director of Talent & Booking is also responsible for the management of Pioneer Records’ Talent Agency. In this capacity, the Director of Talent & Booking will recruit artists for representation and secure opportunities for those represented by the Talent Agency.

Director of Graphic Design
The Graphic Design Director is responsible for translating written or spoken ideas into printed and/or electronic images, layouts and other designs. The brand ambassador’s major project for the semester will be the design of the Pioneer Star’s EP cover. They will be responsible for other semester projects and marketing pieces, such as special events posters, campaign graphics, social media graphics and hot cards. As directed, the Director will support all departments and will occasionally be asked to collaborate with the Point Park University Marketing and Communications Department.
The Director of Graphic Design position is a full-time paid apprenticeship (10 hours/week) with Pioneer Records. As Pioneer Records staff, the Director of Graphic Design is expected to participate in large organizational events such as the Pioneer Star EP Release Concert and the Title IX Concert.
Internship Opportunities
The intern positions are volunteer positions (15 hours/week) with Pioneer Records. Interns report to one of the respective Directors for projects and guidance. As Pioneer Records staff, the interns are expected to participate in large organizational events that fall outside of regular job responsibilities, such as the Pioneer Star EP Release Concert and the Title IX Concert.
